How people are expected to treat each other here, and what gets an account suspended.

The short version

Be honest, be on time, and treat people the way you would want your own family treated in a strange city.

Everyone is welcome

No host may refuse a guest, and no guest may refuse a host, because of their country, their ethnic group, their skin color, their religion, their gender, their disability, their age, their marital status, or who they love.

This platform exists for travel across a continent where people cross borders, languages and faiths constantly. A host who does not want to receive certain kinds of people should not be a host here.

A host may set honest house rules: no smoking, no parties, no shoes indoors. They may also state real limits of the property, such as stairs with no lift. That is information, not discrimination.

Be honest

Photographs must be of the actual property, taken recently.
Descriptions must not claim what is not there.
Reviews must describe a stay that really happened.
Do not create several accounts to get around a suspension or to write reviews of yourself.

Keep it on the platform

Agree the stay and pay through the site. If a host asks you to pay them directly, that is a warning sign: you lose every protection on this page, and we cannot help you if the place does not exist. Tell us if anyone asks.

Not allowed

Harassment, threats, insults, or unwanted contact of any kind.
Discrimination, as described above.
Listing a property you have no right to rent out.
Using the site for anything illegal in the United States.
Attempting to take payment outside the platform.
Damaging a host's property, or a guest's belongings.

What happens if you break these rules

1A warningFor a first, minor problem we will tell you what was wrong and expect it not to happen again.
2A listing removed, or a booking cancelledWhere the problem is with one place or one stay rather than the person.
3Account suspendedFor repeated problems, or for anything serious. A suspended host is still paid for stays that have already happened.
4Account closedFor discrimination, threats, fraud, or anything that puts someone in danger. This is not usually reversible.
