Privacy Policy

What we collect

Only what the service needs to work:

• Your name, email address and password when you create an account. The password is stored encrypted; nobody here can read it.
• Your phone number and the country you live in, if you give them.
• Bookings you make or receive: dates, guest numbers, the amount, and any message you send with the request.
• Messages between travelers and hosts, which are stored so both sides can refer back to them.
• Payment records: the amount, the currency, the method, and the reference our payment provider returns. We never see or store your card number. It goes directly to the provider.
• For hosts: the payout details you give us, so we can send you your money.
• Basic technical information your browser sends, such as the language it asks for, which we use to guess which currency to show you.

How we use it

• To show you listings, take bookings and process payments.
• To let travelers and hosts contact each other about a stay.
• To pay hosts what they are owed.
• To review listings before they go live, and to look into problems that are reported.
• To send you messages about your bookings. These are not marketing.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it for advertising.

Who else sees it

• Your host sees your first name and the details of your booking. They see the messages you send them. They do not see your email address or your phone number unless you give it to them.
• As a traveler you see the host's first name, and the property's address once your booking is confirmed, not before.
• Our payment provider receives what it needs to take the payment.
• Our hosting and database provider stores the data on our behalf.
• We will disclose data if the law of the United States requires it.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies, and none of them are for advertising or tracking you across other sites.

• A sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in. There is a separate one for the traveler, host and admin areas, which is why you can be signed in to more than one at once.
• A language cookie, remembering whether you read the site in English or French.
• A currency cookie, remembering the currency you chose to see prices in. It lasts a year.

You can delete these in your browser at any time. If you delete the sign-in cookie you will simply be signed out.

How long we keep it

Account and booking records are kept while your account is open, and afterwards for as long as the law of the United States requires us to keep financial records. Messages are kept while both accounts exist. When you ask us to delete your account we remove what we are not required to keep.

Your rights

• Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
• Correct anything that is wrong. Most of it you can edit yourself in your account.
• Ask us to delete your account and your data.
• Object to how we are using it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to the database is restricted per account by the database itself, so one traveler cannot read another's bookings even if our application had a fault. Passwords are hashed. Payment details are held by our payment provider, not by us.
